PRI Opposes Tax On Medicine & Food
October 2009 | Ratings UpdateAlthough budgetary negotiations continue, lawmakers from the opposition Partido Revolucionario Institucional (PRI) have announced they will oppose any proposal regarding imposing tax on food items and medicines. The administration of President Felípe Calderón suggested in the second week of September that it would implement a 2% sales tax on all medicine and food products, to use the money to fight poverty, and while the PRI may give ground elsewhere, we don't believe they are willing to budge on this point.
