Investment Grade Still Some Way Off

BMI View: While we acknowledge that Guatemala more than holds its own in terms of the classic credit metrics, we believe that its sovereign rating will be restrained by the country's structural shortcomings. Unless the government is successful in improving corruption perception, poverty levels and income inequality, a move into investment grade territory is unlikely.
