BMI View: The media frenzy surrounding President Álvaro Colom's alleged links to the murder of a Guatemalan lawyer has undoubtedly hurt the country's political risk profile - not least by underlining our concerns about the endemic corruption weakness of the country's institutions. In economic terms, we are concerned that the affair will put much-needed fiscal reform on the backburner, a scenario which could potentially weigh on the economy's recovery over the coming years.
