Solís Candidacy Announced

On 1 June Otton Solís of the main opposition Partido Acción Nacional (PAN) won the party's first ever primary election to become the party's presidential nominee for the 2010 election. Solís, who narrowly lost the last 2006 election to President Oscar Arias, immediately put his campaign's focus on economic policy, promising his supporters preservation of employment would be top of the agenda. Solís is likely to fight it out against Vice President and Justice Minister Laura Chinchilla of the ruling Partido Liberación Nacional (PLN), who is reportedly Arias's preferred candidate for the party.
