May 2009 | Ratings UpdateA recent opinion poll by Berumen/El Universal show that Mexico's governing Partido Acción Nacional (PAN) has failed to close the gap on the opposition Partido Revolucionario Institucional (PRI) in the run up to July's mid-term congressional elections. The poll, published in late May, gives the PAN 36.8% support, well below the PRI's 44.7% level. It now looks almost certain that President Felipe Calderón's party will lose a significant proportion of its congressional support in the elections, hampering the government's chances of far-reaching reforms for the remainder of Calderón's sexenio.
