Tourism: Rough Seas Ahead

The Caribbean tourism sector is facing its most challenging period since the aftermath of the September 11 attacks in 2001. Caribbean destinations with more established travel links will be better placed to deal with the headwinds of the global recession than smaller island states. Moreover, while a pleasant climate and geographic proximity to the US will keep the Caribbean a top tourism destination, rising international competition will remain a key challenge for the region.
