Kirchner Warns Of Return To Chaos
May 2009 | Ratings UpdateIn a sign that the Presidential couple are worried about the outcome of the upcoming mid-term elections, scheduled for June 28, President Cristina Fernández has raised the stakes by arguing that stability and democracy are at risk should the ruling Frente para la Victoria (FPV) alliance not hold on to its congressional majority. Her comments followed those of her husband and predecessor, Néstor Kirchner, who argued that the country could 'explode' if the FPV doesn't gain a majority. While we agree that in the short term, political risk could be elevated if the government is delivered a defeat at the elections, we believe that this could be a positive for the political system over the longer term.
