Mid-Terms Approach: Kirchners Under Pressure

The Argentine government is pulling out all the stops in its bid to secure a successful result at the June 28 mid-term elections. We expect President Cristina Fernández's coalition to remain the largest political alliance in congress, but lose some ground to the opposition, which should limit the government's ability to implement distortionary economic policies. A heavy defeat, on the other hand, would raise the prospect of a turbulent political transition.
