According to a recent poll, a change of leadership in the opposition United National Congress (UNC) party could significantly improve its chances of forming the next government of Trinidad and Tobago. The poll results reveal that if Basdeo Panday stood down as leader of the opposition, and deputy leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar took his place, the opposition party could form the next government. Close to 59% of the 503 respondents were convinced that the UNC would win the next general election if Panday stepped down.
