Remittance Fall-Off Spells Trouble

BMI View: With workers remittances collapsing at a record clip, we have downwardly adjusted Guatemala's private consumption growth projection for 2009. Accordingly, we can no longer rule out a recessionary scenario this year, and are now forecasting a real GDP contraction of -0.6%.
