Suriname's former dictator, Desi Bouterse, may lose his seat in the country's national assembly, after having failed to attend a single parliamentary session between December 1 2007 and December 31 2008, according to ruling party officials. Local press reported that speaker of the House, Paul Somohardjo, sent a letter to Bouterse informing him that his parliamentary membership had been terminated, in line with the country's constitution which requires all lawmakers to attend at least one legislative session within a 13 month period.
