The list of contenders for Ecuador's general elections, scheduled to take place on April 26, has now been confirmed, and while we believe President Rafael Correa still looks on course for an easy victory, with his popularity currently at record highs, we cannot rule out of the possibility of an electoral upset. Correa's key challenge, in our view, will come from four-time candidate and banana exporter Álvaro Noboa, who will represent the right-wing Partido Renovador Institucional de Acción Nacional. Last time Correa faced Noboa in an electoral contest Noboa won the first round, but lost in a run-off ballot.
