We are growing increasingly concerned about the growing controversy surrounding Haiti's senatorial elections, scheduled for April 19. The main issue is the decision by Haiti's provisional electoral council to reject the candidacy of all members of former President Jean-Betrand Aristide's Fanmi Lavalas party, which has been criticised by both US and Canadian authorities. According to Haiti's electoral officials, infighting within the party has led to a situation where it is unclear which candidates have been officially sanctioned by the party to run in April's elections, and as such has ruled to reject all 17 party members who requested candidacy. h
