Kirchners Facing Uphill Struggle

Local farming groups plan to meet to decide on how they will protest against export taxes in the face of the ongoing drought. We believe that we could see mass roadblocks and the withholding of grains from the market, as seen in March 2008, as the farmers' aim to pressure the government into yielding to their demands. Meanwhile, Vice President Julio Cobos, who has called on President Cristina Fernández to suspend export taxes, has begun to form alliances to ensure the defeat of the Kirchners at the October elections, which is putting additional pressure on president's position
