Western Pressure On Human Rights Record Rises

A group of countries comprising Austria, Canada, the Czech Republic, Italy, Israel, the Netherlands, Slovakia and the UK, have put diplomatic pressure on the Cuban authorities to address the country's poor human rights record, prompted by a recent report published by the UN Human Rights Council on Cuba's track record. The Cuban government brushed off any criticism and explained to the UN Human Rights Council that proposals to change Cuban policies were in violation of the island's sovereignty.
