Martinelli In Poll Position

Opinion polls in February showed presidential candidate Ricardo Martinelli, of the opposition Cambio Democrático (CD), increasing his lead over candidate for the ruling Partido Revolucionario Democrático (PRD), Balbina Herrera, with less than four months remaining until the general elections. Martinelli received an approval rating of 55% of those surveyed, with Herrera some way behind on 32%. The poll results chime with our view that Martinelli will succeed current incumbent, Martin Torrijos. Panama heads to the ballot box in May.
