Action Needed On Legal Framework
February 2009 | Ratings UpdateGuyana's President Bharrat Jagdeo addressed the World Economic Forum on January 30, in his role as representative of the Caribbean Community, on the subject of climate change. Jagdeo's talk focussed on 'Climate Justice', where he referred to the need for more action from world leaders on climate change in general, and specifically the issue of deforestation, an important topic for Guyana, which has one of richest and most diverse rainforests in the world. However, we believe that given the current global economic climate, the issue of climate change will be seen as of secondary importance for most of those who attended the forum in Switzerland, and as such Jagdeo's comments will elicit little real action world leaders.
