Bombings In Capital
April 2006 | Ratings UpdateTwo buses in Bogotá were blown up on 6 April, injuring 25 people. This was the first major indiscriminate attack on the capital since 2003. The attacks were almost certainly the work of the left-wing Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia (FARC), trying to prevent President Álvaro Uribe’s re-election in May. We have been concerned for some time that the FARC would seek to discredit Uribes’s Democratic Security Policy in the lead up to elections. These bombings could presage an uptick of terrorist violence.
