UNE Facing Crisis

Guatemala's ruling party, the Unidad de la Esperanza Nacional (UNE), is facing acute risks to its stability. On December 6, UNE member Manuel Baldizón fled to the US after receiving death threats from within the party for his decision to stand for UNE secretary general in 2009. The UNE had earlier prevented Baldizón from standing on the ground of 'disloyalty'.
