Return of The Colon?

Despite presidential hopeful Mauricio Funes, candidate for the left-wing Frente Farabundo Martí para la Liberación Nacional (FMLN), claiming he would retain the country's peg to the US dollar, senior members of the party are undermining him by claiming that the party is considering bringing back the colon. The lack of consistency has been pounced upon by the ruling Alianza Republicana Nacionalista (ARENA), who claim that the traditionally Marxist FMLN has failed to shed its radical roots. The episode could marginalise support from the country's business community for the FMLN ahead of next year's ballot.
