On 30 September, the government revised a reform that would strip the Supreme Court of its role of investigating congressmen implicated in the 'para-political scandal', linking senior politicians to right-wing insurgent groups. Under the new proposals, investigation responsibilities would be transferred to the attorney general, with the Supreme Court retaining the right to pass final judgement. The developments could further strain relations between the executive and the Supreme Court. Uribe has come under pressure for attempting to dilute the Supreme Court's legislative powers in an attempt to shield key members of his government.
