Economy Minister Steps Down

Uruguay's Economic Minister Danilo Astori is expected to tender his resignation on September 15, stirring speculation of possible aspirations for the country's highest office in next year's presidential election. The outgoing economy minister will resume his seat in the Uruguayan senate after his departure from President Tabaré Vázquez cabinet. As economy minister of the Vázquez administration, Astori championed closer trade ties with the United States.
