Third Term Unlikely
September 2008 | Ratings UpdateWhile President Álvaro Uribe has not ruled out running for a third term in office, we believe his proposal of four potential successors on September 4 means it looks increasingly unlikely that he will run for a third term in office. If Uribe does not push for an additional constitutional amendment to allow him to run, this should help bolster Colombia's constitutional framework, improving its long-term political risk rating.
