Greater Economic Cooperation Bodes Well
September 2008 | Economic AnalysisSince coming to power, Paraguayan President Fernando Lugo has voiced his willingness to encourage greater regional economic integration. Indeed, as well as repeatedly pledging his commitment to the Mercosur trade bloc, the exbBishop recently mooted the possibility of reigniting URUPABOL, a coordination and cooperation agreement with Bolivia and Uruguay, which we believe would be a positive development for the region's economies over the long term. The agreement, which was set up in 1963 to improve the ease of goods transportation between the three countries, broke down due to disagreements between the member states, but Lugo's recent comments could suggest that
