Political Outlook Improving, But Risks Remain
July 2008 | Political Risk AnalysisBMI View: Lauded by the international community for his government's success in dealing with local militia groups, Colombian President Álvaro Uribe is riding high. Certainly, a calmer regional profile and security outlook have helped improve the country's short-term political score to a eight-month high of 70.6. However, we caution that any move by Uribe to use political momentum to change the constitution and run for a third term in office could threaten the stability of our long-term political risk rating (currently at 60.8).
