Policy Direction Unclear
August 2008 | Ratings UpdateThe outcome of November's gubernatorial elections remains far from certain. Neither the ruling Partido Popular Democrático (PPD), nor the main opposition parties - the pro-statehood Partido Nuevo Progresista (PNP) and the pro-independence Partido Independentista Puertorriqueño (PIP) - have managed to forge a sizeable lead ahead of the ballot. As such, the direction of future policy remains considerably clouded. This is a significant cause of concern as we believe that a clear and transparent policy agenda will be necessary to help steer the economy out of recession.
