Despite Bush's Insistence, FTA Unlikely In 2008

A statement on July 21 by two commanders of the Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia (FARC), that the organisation would never surrender their arms and stop fighting, came on the same day as the government bombed another FARC camp, this time in the southern province of Cauca. The attack, which killed seven guerrillas, among them a key member of the organisation's western bloc, and the statement, which appears to be a sign of increasing desperation by some FARC members, both point to a weakening of the left-wing terrorist group.
