Several social organisations, trade unions and prosecutors launched a new social movement in May in protest against widespread corruption in the political arena. The Movimiento Amplio por la Dignidad y la Justicia staged a 38 day hunger strike outside congress between April 7 and May 14, and has warned that further action will be taken if necessary. Honduras currently sits in a lowly 131st place (out of 179) in Transparency International's Corruption Perceptions Index, showing just how far the government has left to improve.
