Cabinet Shake Up

Panama's President Martín Torrijos has shaken up his cabinet following the resignation of various ministers with aspirations to stand in the general elections in 2009. The most notable departure was former housing minister Balbina Herrera, who was recently elected president of the ruling Partido Revolucionario Democrático (PRD). Herrera is in pole position to succeed Torrijos as president, a scenario which would likely ensure policy continuity over the medium term. The most recent poll published in local newspaper
