Recall Referendum Scheduled
June 2008 | Risk SummaryOn May 11 the Bolivian government announced that a recall referendum will take place on August 10, which could either confirm President Evo Morales and the nine departmental prefects in office or remove them. The vote is expected to take place on August 10. The vote was approved by the opposition-led senate on May 8. To be removed from office, the vote against each prefect would have to surpass both the number and percentage of votes received in the 2005 election, which places Morales at an advantage given that he won the election with almost 54% of the vote.
