Expect More Populist Rhetoric
May 2008 | Ratings UpdateRodrigo Ávila, presidential candidate for the ruling ARENA party, has endorsed a potential move to hike the country's national minimum wage in order to relieve the burden of soaring food and energy prices. Ávila has also mooted the possibility of staggering working hours in public offices and schools, as well as banning trucks from using streets in daylight hours, in a bid to save energy resources.
