Energy Saving Mode Amid Risk Of Drought

Expectations of further dry weather and prospects of a drought have prompted Uruguayan authorities to implement phase two of an energy saving plan introduced in April. With little or no rain expected over the next several weeks, the government is growing increasingly concerned about a steady supply of hydroelectric power to the country. While no immediate crisis is expected by the authorities the next phase of the energy saving plan will affect private businesses, with bans on outside lighting of any kind during night time.
