Reform Program Slipping?

The prospects for energy reform were dealt a setback when the leftwing Frente Progresista Amplio (FAP) held a two-week sit-in at congress from 9-25 April in protest at the government's proposals to reform state oil monopoly, Pemex . From May 13, legislators will spend 71 days discussing the bill. But with the initial moderate proposals having failed to mollify opposition on the left, we are concerned that such a delay could give the left the space to raise further anti-reform sentiment, which may even scupper the chances of reform at all.
