At the end of April former health minister José Coye was arrested on charges of theft and deception. A member of the previous government of Said Musa, Coye and his driver were accused of stealing some BZD200,000 (US$100,757) from a local businessman, relating to the 2007 sale of a seafront property in Belize City. The buyer paid the former health minister BZD575,000 for the property, but had later discovered government documents stating that only BZD18,000 had been collected.
