Macroeconomic Forecast Honduras

April 2008 | Macroeconomic Forecasts

BMI View: Total external debt in Honduras came in at US$3.1bn in January, equivalent to 30% of GDP. Of the total, US$2.1bn is owed by the public sector, with the remaining US$1bn in the form of private sector liabilities. We do not anticipate a major increase in the nominal value of total external debt this year. By signing into a stand-by arrangement with the IMF , the authorities appear to be ostensibly committed to maintaining fiscal discipline and a stable debt to GDP ratio. Our end-2008 total external debt forecast, therefore, is only slightly higher than present levels at US$3.2bn.
