Barrow Landslide in Elections
March 2008 | Risk SummaryThe results of the February 7 general elections gave challenger Dean Barrow of the United Democratic Party (UDP) a landslide victory, defeating the Peoples' United Party (PUP) of incumbent Prime Minister Said Musa with an overwhelming margin. Barrow, who was sworn in as the country's first black prime minister, had campaigned on a platform of cleaning up the corruption scandals and financial mismanagement that he said had characterised the last years of Musa's administration.
