March 2008 | Macroeconomic Forecasts

BMI View: Total external debt came in at spot on our forecast in 2007 at US$3.0bn. This outturn was equivalent to 29.3% of GDP and 138.9% of exports. Of the total liabilities, general government debt represented the largest burden at US$1.8bn (61.6% of the total), while private sector external debt came in at US$1.0bn (32.7% of the total). Looking ahead, we expect total external debt to reach US$3.2bnnd US$3.4bn in 2008 and 2009 respectively. However, in percentage of GDP terms, the total external burden will remain roughly around 28-29%.
