First Round Knock Out?
March 2008 | Ratings UpdateWith the next presidential election fast approaching (the vote is scheduled for May 16), we reiterate that incumbent Leonel Fernández remains our firm favourite to remain at the helm and, as such, we envisage little disruption to policy continuity going forward. A March poll by Gallup puts Fernández almost 20 percentage points ahead of his nearest rival, Miguel Vargas Maldonado, and with more than 20% of the vote required for a first round victory. As such, we feel little reason to revise down our political risk scores ahead of the ballot.
