Bloated Public Sector Here To Stay
March 2008 | Ratings UpdateMarcio Pochmann, the new head of Brazil's Applied Economic Research Institute (IPEA) has called for an expansion of the country's public sector. This has fed into efforts by President Luiz InĂ¡cio Lula da Silva, to hire on average, some 3,000 additional public sector workers a month. We believe that Pochmann's appointment to the top post at the IPEA in 2007 reflects the growing view in Brasilia that the country's central government continues to acquire more staff.
