Drumming Up Support

Following the incursion of Colombian forces across the border to root out a FARC terrorist camp and the subsequent suspension of diplomatic ties, President Rafael Correa embarked on a five-country tour of the region to drum up support in his diplomatic spat with Ecuador's northern neighbour. His choice of destinations, however, is interesting. Despite the vociferous support of President Hugo Chávez of Venezuela, Correa will not be visiting Venezuela's' closest allies Cuba (as planned), Bolivia, or Nicaragua; this could suggest a moderately cautious approach of seeking to avoid further tension with the US.
