Andean Tensions Hurt Ratings

We have revised down Venezuela's short-term political risk rating considerably as a result of the escalating tensions between Venezuela's President Hugo Chávez and Colombia's Álvaro Uribe and the heightened risk of military conflict. Chávez moved troops to the Colombian border following a Colombian attack on the FARC on Ecuadorian soil. He has also stated that a similar act on Venezuelan soil would be treated as an act of war.
