The Farce Of FARC
February 2008 | Political Risk AnalysisBMI View: Recent hostage releases mediated by Venezuelan president Hugo Chávez have brought renewed attention to the Marxist-Bolivarian Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia-Ejército del Pueblo (FARC) and its aims. While they are to be welcomed - both in themselves and as a possible sign of a weakening of the group - we do not see any likelihood of the FARC disbanding and abandoning its lucrative drug business, and thus see the threat posed by the group persisting.
