Fiscal Outlook Improving

BMI View: Robust economic growth, renewed efforts to contain fiscal expenditure and ongoing improvements to the taxation system are beginning to bear fruit. The corollary is a narrowing of the fiscal deficit from a 14-year nadir of 15.3% in 2005 to a projected 9.9% in 2007. Providing that the authorities manage to keep a lid on public spending, we are confident that the fiscal accounts will continue to improve over the coming years.
