BMI View: Following the example of her husband and predecessor, President Cristina Fernández Kirchner used a public event to pre-empt the next important economic data release from statistics agency, INDEC . Fernández announced that the economy expanded 8.7% in 2007, a figure which, if confirmed, would surpass the 8.5% expansion in the previous year, and outperform even the most optimistic forecasts.
