Making Moves Against Corruption
February 2008 | Risk SummaryIn an effort to fight corruption, the Jamaican Government has agreed to far-reaching changes to the law under the United Nations Convention Against Corruption. The convention was signed by the previous administration but has not yet been ratified. Doing so will mean the country's domestic laws will be adapted to strengthen the prevention and investigation of corruption amongst public officials. This will include establishing an independent authority to investigate abuses by public officials. The enshrined corruption in the Jamaican political system is a major factor constraining our political risk ratings for the country.
