DR-CAFTA Disaster?
February 2008 | Ratings UpdateAs we had warned previously, there is significant danger that the DR-CAFTA trade pact will not be enacted in time. President Oscar Arias said in early February that due to domestic political opposition in congress, it is possible that the trade-related laws that need to be passed will be held up beyond the end-of-February deadline imposed by the US, Consequently, Arias has asked Washington for an extension. He will be holding closed-door meetings with opposition leader Ottón Solís in mid-February to try and hammer out a solution.
