Under the banner 'No more kidnapping, No more lies, No more killing, No more FARC', millions took to the streets in Colombia and around the world to protest the kidnapping tactics used by the Marxist FARC guerrillas. Despite its socio-political origins, the marches are a clear indication of how little public support the group commands. Despite the recent freeing of two hostages and the offer of three more, progress on securing further releases - particularly of the highest-profile captive, Franco-Colombian former presidential candidate Ingrid Betancourt - can be expected to be slow.
