Police Appeal
January 2008 | Ratings UpdatePrime Minister Bruce Golding is urging the Jamaican public to be more considerate towards the country's security forces. Gang crime remains one of the biggest social concerns in Jamaica, with the total number of related deaths amounting to over 1,500 last year - amongst the highest rate in the world. The government is expected to look into new crime-reducing initiatives in 2008. First on the list is a national independent investigation to probe allegations of police abuse. Last year, over 260 Jamaicans were killed in confrontations with the police, with some of these cases being labelled as alleged police
