Costa Rica joined the United Nations Security Council as a non-permanent member on January 1. The country's term will run for two years, during which it will attempt to promote cooperation between the council and the International Criminal Court, as well as working on disarmament issues, according to Foreign Minister Bruno Stagno. We believe that this offers the opportunity for Costa Rica to raise its profile internationally, as well as that of the Central American region.
