More Headaches For Ortega

President Daniel Ortega continues to lock horns with the Nicaraguan legislature. Following his controversial implementation of 'citizen councils', which we believe will concentrate more power in the president's office, opposition politicians have banded together and are now threatening a 'guerrilla war' in the legislature. There is even a movement to have Ortega declared legally insane. While that measure is unlikely to take hold, there are increasing concerns over the very real issue of the 2008 budget, as Ortega opponents in the legislature have vowed that they would not approve the fiscal plan until the institutional dispute had been resolved.
